Torvalds, Kroah-Hartman and other Linux luminaries will attend first-ever Korean Linux Forum

Several of the Linux world's biggest names - including Greg Kroah-Hartman and Linus Torvalds himself - will be present at the Linux Foundation's first Korean Linux Forum, to be held October 11-12 at the JW Marriott in Seoul.

MORE LINUX: Damn Small Linux getting a big update

According to the foundation's executive director, Jim Zemlin, the forum will be an opportunity to integrate the Korean Linux community more tightly into the general ecosystem.

"Korea is a hotbed of new Linux development, especially in the mobile and embedded areas. The Korea Linux Forum will help bridge the amazing work being done in the country with the global Linux community, resulting in technical advancements for Linux and that impact the entire ecosystem. We are pleased to work with our member Samsung on this event and other activities to hopefully tap into the developer talent pool in Korea," he said in a statement.

Samsung, which became a platinum member of the Linux Foundation in June, was described as a partner in putting the event together. One of the keynote addresses at the Korean Linux Forum will be delivered by the company's head of software for the R&D center, Kiho Kim. Samsung, as the world's biggest manufacturer of Android phones, has a well-defined interest in the platform, given its use of the Linux kernel.

The other three keynote speakers will be Torvalds, Kroah-Hartman and Intel chief Linux and open-source technologist Dirk Hohndel, the foundation said, noting that other speakers would be welcome to submit proposals until Aug. 24.
