How to Add Video, Images to Your LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn, the traditionally text-heavy social network for professionals, is getting visual with the launch of the LinkedIn Professional Portfolio, which lets you upload images, videos, presentations and documents to showcase your work.

"This means you can illustrate your greatest achievements in the form of stunning images, compelling videos, innovative presentations and more," says Udi Milo, project manager at LinkedIn.

"From the analyst who makes annual predictions on tech trends to the 3D animator who is looking to fund a new short film, the opportunities are limitless for how professionals can now use the LinkedIn profile to help showcase these unique stories in a visual way," Milo says.

You can upload images, videos, presentations and documents to your summary, experience and education sections of your profile. LinkedIn members can also like or comment on the work samples you've posted.

The LinkedIn Professional Profile is rolling out to members in English-speaking countries now. Here's how you can get started with the new feature.

How to Add Images and Video to Your LinkedIn Profile

To add images, documents, presentations or video to your LinkedIn profile, click "Profile" from the menu at the top, then choose "Edit Profile." Under each of the entries in your Summary, Experience and Education sections is a new icon-a square with a (+) symbol. Click this to upload a file or add a link to a piece of content you want to share. If you don't see this icon, you don't yet have the feature.

If you choose to add a link, type or paste the link to your content into the "Add a link" field. If you upload a file, select the file from your desktop. A picture of your content will display with the pre-filled title and description fields.

To edit the title and description, move your cursor over Profile at the top of your homepage and select Edit Profile. Scroll to the media sample you'd like to edit and click the pencil icon in the lower-right corner. Click inside the Title and Description fields to edit the text, then click Save.

You can also move media samples from one section to another. Do this by clicking the drop-down menu under "Move this media to" and choose the section of your profile you'd like to move it to. Then click Save. To rearrange items within the same section of your profile, click and drag them to the spot you want.

If you want to remove an image, presentation, document or video from your profile, scroll to the sample and click the pencil icon in its lower-right corner. Click "Remove this Media," then click "Yes, remove it."

Note that your content will not load unless it is an approved content type. For image, video, audio, presentation and document compatibility, check the list here. LinkedIn does not support blogs, and all links must be public URLs.

LinkedIn's Professional Profile replaces a number of LinkedIn Applications you may have used in the past. If you have previously added content to your LinkedIn profile using LinkedIn Applications such as My Travel by TripIt, Portfolio Display by Behance, SlideShare presentations, WordPress or Box files, you will need to move this content to your profile yourself.
