Real-time messaging has become a hot area in enterprise software thanks in part to the hype surrounding Slack, and Jive Software has now joined the fray.

Announced in February, Jive Chime has now graduated from beta and is available for use on desktops and mobile devices.

Jive Chime aims to keep teams connected in real time across iOS and Android devices and on Windows and Mac desktops. Promising a secure and consumer-style experience, the app can be used for both one-on-one and group conversations. Both images and links can be shared in-line from mobile or desktop devices.

Chime is designed to make it easy for users to create and name groups, add and remove coworkers from conversations, and see when messages are read and when team members are responding. Employees can also customize the tool by setting notification preferences so that they can stay informed without getting bombarded.

IT admins, meanwhile, can add, deactivate and edit employees' profiles by uploading their directory in a centralized console.

The basic Chime app is free, but the optional IT administration features cost $2 per user per month.

Jive Chime joins the Jive Daily company news app as the first offerings to emerge from the company's recently announced Jive-w app portfolio.
